Contemporary African Art

Contemporary African Art

A pioneer in this speciality, Artcurial organised the first sale dedicated to contemporary African art in Paris in 2010, with 65 artists representing 24 nationalities.

In 2017, Artcurial held a contemporary African art sale entitled African Spirit as part of its auctions in Marrakech, making the most of the city’s dynamism to attract international collectors. Further auctions in 2018 enabled the department to set 12 world records in two years for artists such as Bodys Isek Kingelez, Malick Sidibé and Seydou Keïta. Since 2019, Artcurial has been organising up to two sales per year at La Mamounia in Marrakech, with the aim of presenting quality works by renowned artists and new talents.

In 2018, Artcurial launched Marrakech Art Week which was held two years in a row in the city: a true cultural hub for the promotion and development of the African art scene.

In parallel, the department continues to develop in Paris by organising bi-annual live sales as well as online auctions, allowing this increasingly popular art form to be introduced to art lovers and collectors.

Artcurial’s specialists are at your disposal for free and confidential valuations of your works of contemporary African art.
